If I sat on my front lawn, I’d see about 2 cars per day, 3 on a busy day, including the mail carrier. If I sit on the back deck, I can see the highway but it’s too far away to identify cars without a telescope.

Squirrels, though. Lots of them.

So I’m sitting inside drinking bourbon and watching baseball with wife and dogs; kids are asleep upstairs.

Looks like it, I’m guess it’s a hotel, but since I live in one of three apartment complexes right here it might also be another complex. This is already the busiest area of Greenville, can’t complain I knew that moving in.

Yesterday was all about bringing my wife up to speed on what I want and why. No test drives, no negotiating.

Just checking out the interiors of the new 3- and 5-series, new C and E class, and the W212 Benz. She has been very set against buying used. She strongly prefers leasing new.

However, she is getting to the same conclusion I reached months ago. That the 3 and C are too small, and the 5 and E are too expensive.

So I think I have about gotten her to agree on the used E550 that I want. Which could lead to an Oppo road trip to pick up a new (to me) car this week or next. Between MB CPO and Carmax, there are only 16 E550's for sale with a good warranty in the US. None in IL.

Can’t you extend the Mercedes CPO warranty to 3 years/unlimited mileage?

Yup. And I’ve asked for specific costs on that from 2 dealers - extending to 36 months is $2495. That’s a no brainer to me.

The other option is the Carmax- 60 months up to 100k on the odometer runs about $4k.

Those are the only two warranties I trust, and I absolutely want a warranty, so I’m limiting it to those two sources.

The number one thing is no white cars. That knocks 5 or so of the 16 out.

Beyond that, it has to have the premium package (almost all do anyways) and I’d like the heated wheel, panoramic roof, and massage seat, but beggars can’t be choosers. Wife won’t let me fly to Montana and drive back, I don’t think.

I literally have a spreadsheet with all the details of all 16 cars, plus about 8-10 more CPO cars that sold in the last month.

There are 4 that interest me. 2 Carmax, one in Detroit and one in Missoula. Maybe one in Dallas. Detroit car is at the top.
